Who is responsible for licensing Real Estate Associates in Alberta?

In Alberta, to call yourself or to work as a Real Estate Associate or Real Estate Broker, you must be licensed by the Real Estate Council of Alberta (RECA).

What are the licensing requirements for Real Estate Associates in Alberta?

Internationally educated Real Estate Associates must follow the same process to become a Real Estate Associate as new Associates. The only exceptions to this rule are listed on the Coming from Another Jurisdiction page on the Real Estate Council of Alberta website.

Internationally educated Real Estate Associates must:

  1. Meet the Eligibility Criteria.
  2. Complete and pass the Real Estate Associates Program.
  3. Submit a Certified Criminal Record Check from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP).
  4. Contact a real estate brokerage in Alberta and obtain employment. Once your education is complete and RECA has your CCRC, your broker can initiate your licensing and registration application.

What are the educational requirements for Real Estate Associates in Alberta?

In Alberta, to become a licensed Real Estate Associate or Real Estate Broker, applicants must study and pass the Real Estate Associates Program (REAP). REAP consists of the Fundamentals of Real Estate and a minimum of one practice course (Residential, Rural, Commercial, and Property Management).

To become a real estate broker, you must be licensed in all areas of practice and complete the Real Estate Brokers Program course.
